What We Collect
Beach Walk itself collects very little, and keeps it on your device:
- • Favourite beaches (stored on your device)
- • Notification preferences and alert timing
- • Unit preference (metric / imperial)
- • Your advertising choices, including whether you allowed tracking (stored on your device)
What We Don't Collect
Beach Walk does not collect your name, email address, contacts or precise location, and your favourites and settings never leave your device. The only data that leaves your device because of ads is described under Advertising below.
Tide Data On Your Device
Tide predictions are official Bureau of Meteorology data published as open data by Maritime Safety Queensland (© State of Queensland, CC BY 4.0). They are bundled with the app, so tide lookups happen on your device — no tide request is sent anywhere.
Third-Party Services
Beach Walk uses third-party services to provide app functionality. Only beach coordinates are sent for data requests:
- • Apple Weather (WeatherKit) — weather, wind and moon data
- • Sunrise-Sunset.org — daylight information
- • Google Places — nearby places
- • Google AdMob — advertising
- • Queensland Government open data portal — annual tide prediction updates
Advertising
Beach Walk is free and is funded by advertisements served by Google AdMob. Ads are matched to what you are viewing, such as the beach or region on screen.
- • On iOS, the app asks whether Beach Walk may track you. If you allow it, Google may use your device's advertising identifier to show more relevant (personalised) ads and to measure them. If you don't, you still see ads, just non-personalised ones. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
- • On Android, Google may use your device's advertising ID to choose and measure ads, which can include personalised ads. You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in Android Settings > Privacy > Ads.
- • Where the law requires it (such as Europe and the UK), you are asked for consent first, and you can change your choice later under Settings > Privacy Choices.
- • To serve and measure ads, Google's ad service may receive your IP address (which it can use to estimate your general location), device and advertising identifiers, how you interact with ads and the app, and diagnostic information such as crashes and performance. This is sent over an encrypted connection and handled by Google under its own policies, described at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
- • The optional Support Beach Walk purchase removes all ads.
